You feel the squish. You see a streak on the walkway. You smell the first notes of disaster.
You’ve just stepped in dog poop. We’ve all done it, and unfortunately, there’s no miracle-fix for the dilemma. However, if you act fast and follow these easy steps, you might just save your favorite shoe from a stinky demise.
Materials:
- 1 Large Plastic Bag
- 1 Retired Toothbrush
- 1 Bowl of Soapy Water
- 1 Poopy Shoe
Step 1: Freeze the shoe in a large plastic bag
Zip it up and toss it in the freezer until the dog poop is fully frozen. Once the grime’s consistency is that of ice, take an old or broken pen and the shoe outside, and chip the frozen feces off of the bottom. This way, you can avoid wasting paper towel and risking the cleanliness of your hands by chipping the dried gunk at a safe distance.
Step 2: Get to work with an old toothbrush
Using dish soap and water, scrub what’s left of the mess off of the shoe with a toothbrush. The small bristles will make quick work of the cracks and crevices under your shoe. Make sure to scrape away from yourself, as to not flick debris onto your clothing or skin. Throw out the tooth brush.
Step 3: Throw your shoe in the laundry
Make sure your shoes can handle a machine wash (suede shoes, for instance, cannot), and if you’re still feeling worried about what is hiding on the underside of your sneaker, give it a rinse in the washing machine.
Step 4: Watch out
There’s no telling what lies around the corner. The best way to a clean shoe is to not dirty it in the first place, so look before you leap, and keep your yard clean!
Of course the best solution is to not step in dog poop in the first place. Hiring a professional poop scooping service to keep your yard free of dog waste can help make sure you keep your shoes poop free.
